Share your birth story!
Years ago... sisters, cousins, aunties, and mothers supported the women in their family and community during the birth process. Young girls learned about childbirth by witnessing birth itself and listening to the stories of those who had gone before them. As the years passed, birth turned into a more secluded event, and the stories shared seemed to be the "horror" type. Whether women experienced a traumatic birth or had providers they didn't feel comfortable with, our society began accepting the negative images of birth as the new normal.
Let's take back the memory of our birth experiences! Ask those around you what their own births were like, and make sure to hear the positive and negative memories. We get so tied up in who had the hardest birth, the longest birth, the most stitches, or the most pain. While labor may be the hardest work a woman will ever endure, let's not scare those who will follow in our footsteps.
